Tuna Fish From Store Healthy?
June 3, 2010 Categories: Healthy Food
1-3 times a week I get tuna fish sandwich and take it. It has mayonaise and celery in it. I purchase it from a store that sells Heroes(bread or sandwich with food inside). So is this healthy? Will buying tuna from a store make it have lesser mercury? If not, which way of tuna has the least mercury?

being from the store has no bearing on the mercury levels. There are no boats out there fishing murcury free waters for tuna to sell to stores only.
You are fine eating tuna that many times a week. You might worry about all the mayo thought. Mayo is made from Oil, Egg whites, and Sugar basically not the healthiest thing.
but all in all it is better than cramming a double cheese burger down your throat
You might try making it yourself. Buy the “Light Tuna” in water, not Albacore. The light tuna has less mercury (it’s also cheaper). You can also make sure it is made with light mayo if you make it at home. Splurge on some good bread and you can still have a great sandwich.
If you can buy Cloverleaf Tuna where you are, they make small tins already mixed in the following flavors: Flaked Light Tuna – Lemon & Pepper
Flaked Light Tuna – Sundried Tomato & Basil
Flaked Light Tuna – Tomato & Onion
Flaked Light Tuna – Spicy Thai Chili
Flaked Light Tuna – Dill & Lemon
Flaked Light Tuna – Spicy Peanut Satay
Flaked Light Tuna – Garlic and Hot Pepper
Tuna Salad – Classic
Tuna Salad – Low Fat
they come in single serving sizes

I do not represent cloverleaf or am involved with them in any way, I just like their product. They also sell salmon. Mix into a lettuce salad or use low fat mayo and you are ready to go. I know you can buy cloverleaf in Canada but I don’t know about other countries.
Mercury isn’t as big of a deal in Tuna like it use to be. I’d say it doesn’t matter if it comes from a store or out of a can. It’s all the same. I wouldn’t worry so much.
