Healthy cat losing weight?

Question by Britni M: Healthy cat losing weight?
My once very chubby cat has recently slimmed down… to probably about a normal cat weight. My other cat has recently plumped up beyond belief… they both take the same amount of food each day, so it isn’t like the one cat is stealing the others food. He seems perfectly healthy and happy, and is as sweet as ever. I don’t want to take him to the vet unless I think it is something serious, as I have a tendancy to be a “worried mommy”.

Are cat’s weights supposed to change like this randomly? He is only 2 years old.

Get him to a vets. Is he intake ok? Has he gone off his food? Have you notced him drinking more? IT sould be the begin of kidney failure.

I didnt mean to scare you but cats keep any illnesses well hidden.

Weight loss without a change in food intake is also a sign of diabetes. Has he increased his water intake as well, or have you noticed he uses the litter box more often?
Diabetes in cats, as in people, is much easier to treat when caught early. You should take him to the vet just to be safe. If they find that nothing’s wrong, at least you’ll have peace of mind.
    I hope he’s ok.
