What is Wheat Grass?

November 30, 2011   Categories: Superfood

Wheat grass is the sprouted grass of the wheat plant that is often juiced or dried into a supplement for nutritional consumption. Wheat grass juice or extract contains chlorophyll, amino acids, minerals, vitamins, and enzymes that are all beneficial for digestion. Wheat grass is stated to have an astonishing amount of health benefits when used as a regular supplement in a healthy lifestyle.

Wheat grass looks nearly same to normal grass that is growing in your backyard, but can be harvested indoors on sprouting trays in a matter of a couple of weeks. When grown in your own home, you can benefit from it by adding the wheat grass into smoothies and shakes or when juicing fruits and vegetables into drinks.

The average dosage taken by consumers is about 30mL of fresh wheat grass juice once daily. This amount of supplement is stated to reduce the risk of cancer, heavy metal detoxification, prevention of bad breath and body odor, and to promote feelings of well being.

Wheatgrass is full of vitamins and minerals, specifically vitamin E, C, and B12, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, iron and potassium. It is stated to be better to most other vegetables, and this is generally true with the exception of spinach and broccoli which are nearly on par with apiece other.

Wheatgrass juice is also considered an extremely powerful detoxifier which helps protect the body against carcinogens. By strengthening various cells and increasing red blood cells, wheatgrass can help eliminate and neutralize free radicals and toxins in the body that can cause serious irreparable damage.

It is stated to stimulate the metabolism as well as enzyme systems which support the body by enriching the blood with such a nutrient rich drink. It also stimulates the thyroid gland which can help with weight issues, indigestion, and irritable bowel syndrome.

Acidic blood can cause a myriad of medical problems within the body and wheat grass supplementation can help restore alkalinity to the blood. This means inflammation and body aches can be relieved as well as other internal pains such as constipation or diarrhea, peptic ulcers, and other gastrointestinal problems.

Wheatgrass juice is even useful externally being applied to cuts, burns, scraps, rashes or insect bites. Apply to the skin to sooth itching and burning nearly immediately. You can even rub the juice into your scalp before washing your hair to help eliminate itchy scalp and dandruff.
